The Chetco Community Public Library in Brookings recently announced Erik Dongelmans as its adult services manager.

When Dongelmans came to Brookings from the Sacramento area, he took a position at the Curry County office as an elections clerk, but when a position at the circulation desk opened at the Brookings library he applied.

“When Julie (Retherford, library director) said they wanted to hire for an adult services manager, I went “Eureka!” said Dongelmans. “That’s something I could have a direct hand in forming and helping change the community.

“There’s a lot of programs that many other libraries have that we just haven’t had someone to head up,” said Dongelmans. Trivia night, a book club and open-mic nights are just a few of the programs Dongalmans hopes to bring to the community.

Not to mention a resume workshop, a “trouble with technology” program, retirement community outreach, community “conversations,” adult crafting workshops, and cultural presentations.
