The Trees

Decorated Christmas trees will fill the Chetco Grange for the ChariTree Holiday Festival.

The 9th annual ChariTree Holiday Festival starts Friday and will be held over two days this weekend at Chetco Grange Community Center, located at 97895 Shopping Center Avenue in Brookings.

“It’s a nice event that includes participation from all of the charities in the area,” said Joan Willis, who oversees marketing and advertising for ChariTree.

The event kicks off with a Gala Night for the nonprofit organizations that created a tree and other sponsors, on Friday, Dec. 3, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the ChariTree’s will be open to the public, and will include voting for the ‘People’s Choice Award,’ a ‘Youth Category’ and other awards.

Bidding on the trees begins at 11 a.m. and closes at 3:45 p.m.

A coloring workshop for kids will also be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Some of this year’s participants include: B-H Christian School, Brookings Livestock 4H, the Azalea Quilt Guild, CASA of Coos-Curry Counties, the South Coast Humane Society and more.

Pulled pork and egg salad sandwiches will be sold from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“The best part of the festival is learning more about what our local nonprofit organizations do and meeting the people who work to support these groups,” stated a representative from the Coos-Curry Electric Charitable Foundation.

Proceeds from the tree auction go back to the nonprofits that created them.

The ChariTree event is co-sponsored by Chetco Grange, Wild Rivers Connect, Fred Meyer for Gala Night, Home Depot (which provided discounts on the trees) and Tolowa Dee-ni’ Nation.
