Central Curry School District 1, in cooperation with Oregon State University and the Lemelson Foundation, is offering a week-long day camp called “iINVENT.”
Students will be able to apply science, technology, engineering and math concepts while using design thinking.
By working in a community of fellow inventors and OSU invention camp mentors, students will develop skills in creativity, problem solving, perseverance, leadership, and teamwork.
By connecting students to an OSU student mentor, they’ll be able to engage in conversations about higher education and college life at the university.
The camp will run Aug. 5 through Aug. 9, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., at Riley Creek Elementary School.
On Friday, Aug. 9, at 2 p.m., parents and the community will be invited to attend the final presentation of inventions created by students during the week.
Lunch will be provided through the Summer Lunch Program.
The camp is intended for students entering the middle school years of sixth, seventh and eighth grades who are enrolled in public, private or home school in Curry County.
There are no camps available this summer in either Port Orford or Brookings.
The camp is free of charge.
