The Central Curry School District 1 Board of Directors, meeting Dec. 18 in the Gold Beach High School Library, reviewed the “At a Glance” reports published by the Oregon Department of Education for the district and each school.

Student representative Samantha Mazur reported about the changing culture of the school, evidenced by its dedication to athletic teams, the increase in Mathlete and Knowledge Bowl participation, and the variety of students’ community service projects.

District Superintendent Tim Wilson announced the addition of several employees over the past two months, including Matt Ahearn (attendance advocate), Susan Giovannetti, Gretchen Anthony, Mary Lee and Perry Kishaba (mentor, teacher/coach), Debra Watson (Talented and Gifted Program coordinator), MacKenzee Lee (webmaster), Ty Wardell (JV boys’ basketball coach), Michelle Pearce (high school softball coach) and Karla Metzger (teacher aide).

Wilson also announced the retirement of teacher aide and employee wellness coordinator Mary Breen.

The district’s enrollment of 476 students (328 at Riley Creek and 148 at Gold Beach High School) is down from October 2019 by nine students, and down 11 students from December 2018.

The next scheduled meeting of the board is 6 p.m. Jan. 15, in the high school Library.
