A Brookings man was killed after he was struck by a car while crossing a street Saturday night in Portland.

Stephen Looser, a 66 year-old retired contracting consultant, was visiting Portland with his girlfriend to seek medical care for her. Looser left the hotel alone to get something from a nearby store. On his way back to the hotel, Looser was hit by an oncoming vehicle as he crossed Northeast 82nd Avenue, according to his mother Marjorie Buck and news reports.

Looser was transported to a Portland hospital where he died.

The driver involved remained at the scene and cooperated with Portland police. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Looser is survived by his mother, daughter and step-sisters. He will be cremated at Redwood Memorial Chapel, there will not be a memorial service.
