Brookings Flying Club Youth Aviation Committee Chairperson Rosie Hoxeng announced that the BFC Board of Directors awarded a $1,500 scholarship to Sierra Brannon-Young, a recent graduate of Del Norte High School. Brannon-Young is attending San Jose State University studying aviation professional flight. The club congratulates Brannon-Young and wishes her success in her pursuit of an aviation career.

BFCs Youth Aviation Committee encourages students to explore a future in aerodynamics, and the club offers scholarships to local students to assist them in achieving those goals.

The aviation field offers many career opportunities. For example, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that employment categories in support of air transportation are expected to grow by 25 percent through 2022. Boeing recently forecast 558,000 new pilot jobs worldwide by the year 2034. Along with increased pilot hiring, the company anticipates a need for 600,000 maintenance technicians.
