Police officials closed U.S. Highway 101 at Humbug Canyon at about 11:50 a.m. today following a high-speed chase and crash.

According to police officials, the male suspect was driving a stolen, yellow tow truck and had exceeded speeds of 90 miles per hour. The truck crashed in the canyon and blocked both lanes of the highway after suffering tire damage from spike-strips deployed earlier to stop it.

During the chase, the driver struck and damaged another truck with a trailer in tow. He was tased and apprehended at the crash site, and medics were called to treat him for an injury to his head.

The suspect led Gold Beach police officers on the high-speed pursuit northbound on U.S. Highway 101 beginning in or near the city of Gold Beach at about 11:30 a.m. Curry County Sheriff’s deputies and Oregon State Police officers assisted.
