Pat Piper

The American Red Cross honored Pat Piper for 50 years of volunteering Monday while she was working the blood drive at Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Brookings. Piper said she could never have done it “without the wonderful volunteers who help.”

When offered a badge for her service, she pointed to her lanyard – already bedecked with badges – and said one more would give her whiplash.

Piper volunteers with the Soroptimists, Elks and Lions while working full-time as well.

“I have a lot of energy and the area has need,” she said, “but I need all the help I can get.”

Shirley Manson

Shirley Manson was recognized for 30 years of service by the Red Cross Monday and announced she was retiring from volunteer service.
