The Brookings-Harbor Community Helpers Food Bank’s 20 volunteers worked 439 hours in December to serve hundreds of people in the Brookings area who needed food last month.
According to Executive Director Pam Winebarger, the bank served 297 families, 980 people with food boxes, 1,043 people with “daily counter food” and 997 children with Snack-Packs.
The food bank also received 7,084 pounds of donated food during the holiday season including Grocery Outlet, Fred Meyer, KFC, Bi-Mart, Verizon Victra-Brookings, Sutter Coast Hospital, the U.S. Coast Guard, Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Starbucks, the Brookings Harbor Food Project, Goodwill, Curt and Susan Lunsford with the Rotary Club, the Elks and Lions clubs, the Brookings Democratic Party, Railroad Market, Brookings-Harbor School District, TOPS, Red Hat Society, Farmers Market, Kalmiopsis Elementary School, Angela and Sophie Siquig, the Cochrane Family and others.
More than 60 others contributed cash to support the bank.
“Our wish list for January is food for our snack pack program and our daily counter,” Winebarger said.
