The Curry County Board of Commissioners plan to rewrite the commissioner’s travel policy, deeming many of its components as unrealistic and too restrictive to conducting business.
The travel policy was instituted under the last board and limits commissioners to $1,500 apiece for gas, lodging and conference fees. The board will also ask for a supplemental budget increase of $15,000 — to $19,500 — to allow commissioners to travel out of county for business related to local issues.
Some of those include meetings with the Border Coast Regional Airport Authority in Gold Beach, Association of Oregon Counties, legislative issues in Salem and many others.
Commissioner Court Boice overspent the entire budget last year — and has asked the budget committee to consider reimbursing him some $5,000 he has spent of his own money to travel for county-related work.
The Southwestern Oregon Community College Board is seeking applications for vacant Budget Committee positions.
Those interested should contact the president’s office for an application or download the form from the Board’s website at socc.edu/board.
Applications must be returned no later than 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15. Interviews will be held at 6 p.m. Feb. 25.
The first budget committee meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. May 13.
Jerry’s in calendar
Jerry’s Rogue Jets in Gold Beach is featured for the month of June in the 2019 State Accident Insurance Fund’s 2019 calendar that was recently distributed to more than 56,000 agents and policyholders.
“This year’s theme was ‘Exploring Oregon, celebrating businesses, employees and volunteers who make Oregon a great place to travel, work and live,” said Lauren Cassler, SAIF’s communications strategist. “We chose policyholders for the calendar based on several factors including location, their contributions to the travel industry and their commitment to worker safety.”
