Warming up with one last tournament before league starts, the Bruins hit the North Valley Winter Blast Tournament over the weekend, going 1-1.

The Bruins started out against the 4A North Valley where they took a 59-51 win. They followed up with a game against Baker that resulted in a 70-52 loss for the Bruins.

League play begins next Tuesday when the Bruins travel to play against the Douglas Trojans at 6 p.m. The Trojans are a returning rival for the Bruins for their first season at the 3A level.

The Bruins begin league play at 6-5 overall ranked No. 11 in the OSAA 4A rankings.

Before jumping headlong into league play, the Bruins wrapped up their pre-league season at the North Valley Winter Blast over the weekend and going 1-1.

The Bruins started out against their hosts, the North Valley Mustangs, taking a 76-53 victory. They followed up with a game against Baker ending up with a 62-38 loss for the Bruins.

Despite being in a new 3A league this year, the Bruins will start league play against longtime rivals, the Douglas Trojans. The Bruins travel to play the Trojans in Winston next Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Bruins Wrestling

After a holiday break, the Bruins return on Saturday when they travel to Eagle Point for the Eagle Point Invite. After that, they’ll head to Rogue River on Jan. 12 for the Rogue River Invite. Start times are still to be announced

Panthers boys basketball

The Panthers played a slew of non-league games before breaking for the holidays and picking things up on Thursday at the Salem academy tournament.

The Panthers played the Illinois Valley Cougars on Dec. 19 for a 62-52. After that, they played Camas Valley on Dec. 20 for a 33-30 loss and Lost River on Dec. 21for a 67-46 loss. Then they played one last game against St. Mary’s on Dec. 22 before taking their holiday break.

The Panthers play Horizon Christian at 6 p.m. for the first round of the Salem Academy Tournament on Tuesday.

Panthers girls basketball

The Panthers packed in several games into the week before their holiday break and will return this week to play in the Salem Academy Tournament.

On Dec.19, the Panthers played the Illinois Valley Cougars resulting in a 52-25 loss. They followed up on Dec. 20 with a game against Camas Valley for a 34-29 loss. They played Lost River on Dec. 21 for a 60-10 loss and then wrapped things up against St. Mary’s for a 59-23 loss.

The Panthers play again Thursday when they take on Kennedy in the first round of the Salem Academy Tournament at 7:30 p.m.
