Brookings resident Gina Bond bagged a massive bull elk with a premium tag in Wenaha, Oregon on Aug. 23. The five-point elk was measured on-site by her husband Brian Worthington at an estimated 358 inches.
“Getting a premium tag is usually an opportunity of a lifetime,” Bond said. “It’s a lot like winning the lottery.”
Bond was caught in a flurry of elk with several five-point bulls all around her. As the bull in question came towards her she shot it with her half-cocked compound bow. Bond is currently having the elk mounted by a taxidermist.
“A lot of people get drawn premium tags and come back with nothing,” Bond said. “It’s a beautiful place to hunt and there’s so much to see. Still, some people get greedy and spend all their time trying to get a world record and end up with nothing.”
