Hi Pro Bait and Tackle at 604 Railroad St. in Brookings opened Sept. 3.

Owner Dave McMasters said he is moving both his fishing retail store and machine shop to the new location in Brookings and intends to hire about 15 people.

The business, originally located in the San Francisco Bay Area, sells frozen and live bait as well as tackle, according to McMasters. The machine shop manufactures wire and brass fittings for weights and other tackle for both recreational and commercial fishermen, including downriggers.

The store will carry equipment for both salt and freshwater fishing, he said, including some fly tackle.

He added he will be carrying ammunition and other sporting equipment outside the fishing realm.

Scott Jones will manage the retail store while McMasters and partner Loretta Goralczyk will control overall operations.

Staff were stocking shelves and pricing merchandise to prepare for Monday, according to Goralczyk.

The store will be open Mondays through Saturdays, 6 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sundays, 6 a.m.-3 p.m.
