Prison escapee Kevin Wayne King was fished from the Port of Brookings Harbor and arrested Wednesday after residents chased him into the water for trespassing on a boat.

The Curry County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 9:07 p.m. reporting a possible burglary in progress on the Windchime, a boat in the Port of Brookings Harbor.

The caller said a white male in his 40s was on the boat and had broken into another boat and had stolen numerous items.

Deputy Jordan White arrived to find King had been confronted by local residents and jumped into the water. White retrieved and detained the suspect who originally gave a false name.

Investigation revealed the 44 year-old King was wanted on an escape warrant/detainer for his arrest out of the Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Wilsonville.

King is accused of breaking into two vessels in the port and is being held at the Curry County Jail on the warrant and charges of burglary and providing false information to an officer.

White located a car he had seen King using the day before unattended at an RV park. A records check determined it had been stolen.

White reported he also learned that King was possibly involved in other crimes in Del Norte County including breaking into a motel room and stealing numerous items.

All information was referred to the Curry County District Attorney for additional charges.
