Julie Retherford, originally from southern Ohio, has been named as the new director of the Chetco Community Public Library District in Brookings and begins work July 1.
She was selected from a pool of applicants from around the United States.
Retherford is presently the head of Access for the Chillicothe and Ross County Public Library where she oversees multiple departments for a nine-branch library system, and serves on the Ohio Digital Library Advisory Council and the Professional Development Committee for the Ohio Library Council.
She has a bachelor’s degree in literature and communications from Ohio University and a master of arts in library and Information science from the University of Kentucky.
Retherford is said to be “thrilled to be leaving the cold winters and humid summers of Ohio to settle in Brookings,” a press release reads. “She is excited to get involved in Brookings and the surrounding communities and is eager to hear from the community about how the library district can best meet its needs.”
A community reception will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at the library on Alder Street.
