Funeral and cremation provider Redwood Memorial Chapel has recently installed equipment to provide pet cremation services to the residents of Curry and Del Norte Counties.

“We have seen an increase in demand for this service to be provided locally — especially over the past year,” said company president Travis Sandusky. “Our desire is to provide prompt, professional and local service to families in the communities we serve; we saw this as the next step in that mission.”

Cremation services are arranged through local veterinary providers with Redwood Memorial Chapel providing transportation to and from the provider, as well as the cremation and a paw-print metal urn.

“Pet owners would typically work through their veterinarian, but if they are not using a veterinarian they are free to contact us directly,” Sandusky said.

Sandusky’s two shih tzu’s were among their first clients. “Having just lost our two 14- and 15-year-old dogs, I began to realize how difficult and emotional that loss can be. Up until now, we have just been turning people away, which didn’t sit well with me. I’m glad we will now be able to provide this service to the community.”

Assisting with the installation were Lance Kessler Construction, Blue Star Gas, Robinson Electric, Harbor Truss and 5R Excavation and Paving.
