Capping off a series of three home track meets to open their season, the Bruins hosted the Brookings-Harbor District 4 meet on Wednesday.
“There was no rain, but it’d still be great to see how we do with no wind,” said Bruins head coach Terry Axel.
Brookings took first for the boys out of the three attending schools with 77 total points. Coquille took second ay 39, while Sutherlin took third at 35. For the girls, Brookings took first again at 51, with Sutherlin close behind at 46. Coquille came in third with 32. The Bruins came in first in many events.
Starting with men’s running events, Andrew Enos took first for the Bruins in the men’s 100-meter with a new PR of 11.92 seconds. Enos also took first in the 200 with a time of 25.12, also a new PR. Zachary Abblitt took first in the 800 with a 2:21.59 PR and also took first in the 1500 at 4:39.80 for a new SR. Kaleb Barnes took first in the 3000 at 10:07.70.
For throwing events, Josh Smith took first in the shot put at 39-03, Nicholas Dodson took first in the discus at 94-06 and Derek Bonde took first in the javelin at 165-07. Bonde is currently ranked No. 2 in the state for javelin at the 3A level, less than three feet under the number one thrower, Mason Strunk of Salem Academy.
Aiden Strahm took first in the long jump at 18-08 for a new PR, as freshman Connor Clark took second in pole vault at 32-00.50.
For women’s events, Faith Burton took first in the 1500 at 6:22.36, a new PR, while Megan Pearson took first in the 300 hurdles at 55.29. Chloe McCrae took first in the discus at 98-11, and the javelin with a new PR at 99-11. Mickey Fulton took first in pole vault at 8-00 and Alexandra Conteras took second with a new SR of 6-06.

“I’m hoping we can keep going as good as we’ve been doing,” Axel said. “We have a couple of small injuries so a few kids will be resting up, but we’re all excited to see how we do at our first away meet this year.”
The Bruins head to Douglas today for their first away meet starting at 11 a.m.
