Thanks for Support

We would like to thank everyone for the tremendous support you gave to the 13th Annual Soroptimist Community Baby Shower. We would also like to give special thanks to Fred Meyer for allowing us use of their lobbies this last Saturday, the Azalea Quilt Guild for their beautiful baby blankets, and the many volunteers who helped make this event a success.

Babies don’t get to choose the circumstances into which they are born. Your generous contributions allow us to supply babies in need with diapers, clothing, toiletries, quilts, and car seats.

Last year we presented over 25 baby boxes to families. We were also able to provide support for the local Coast Guard families during the recent government shutdown. All of your donations are only used in our local community and are dispersed through WIC, Community Action, Oasis House, Pregnancy Care Center, Head Start and Healthy Families Oregon.

We will be assembling the 2019 boxes at Chetco Library March 23 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. and everyone is welcome. Again, thanks to everyone for their contributions.

All Figured Out

It’s just getting better. Cortez has it all figured out that we have only 12 years left on this planet. All because of Global warming… her WWIII. Maybe a trip to China would help her decide where to begin. And stop throwing out your little plastic bags. If you’re so smart, figure that out.

And then we have Beto saying it’s like “the Storming of Normandy Beaches.” They must have missed all the same classes in school (all of them). They have no idea of either of these events… neither was even born at the time.

Noticed that AOC is having trouble with time management. She has to sleep on an air bed, no furniture. Unable to go shopping because her job requires so much of her time. Poor baby. That’s more than millions of people on this planet have... a job, money, a home. I do not feel sorry for you.

These two people are really not beneficial to their party. Mostly because they can’t think as fast as they talk. One flips her hair, and uh, yeh, what I mean is… she’s a bit ignorant. The other waves his arms, dances on weak tables and acts like a 50’s kid on a skateboard. Poor Nancy… it’s been a lot of years since she had to handle out of control kids.

Gold Beach police

Congratulations to Port Orford residents for their resounding approval of the measure needed to continue paying for their police department.

Isn’t it time that the more populated community of Harbor do very much the same thing? Solely depending on the already overstretched and understaffed Curry County Sheriff’s Department is not the right solution to local policing.

It’s not fair to the hard-working sheriff and his staff, nor to the rest of the county, who have for too many decades shouldered that unfair additional cost of this service.

Again, congratulations to Port Orford for stepping up, rather than sidestepping.

Cracking up

I was immensely entertained by the recent letter that ran through the standard right-wing wackadoodle mantras (Democrats destroying America, FBI traitors, immigrant invasion, blah-blah-blah), the obligatory Obama obsession (three mentions) and the author’s usual depiction of those who cannot appreciate Donald Trump’s greatness as “stupid” or “inept.”

The crackup for me was the new Trumpian theme that’s beyond wack — blaming the rise in anti-Semitic violence in America on… wait for it… Barack Obama.

That’s right, folks, the exponential increase in attacks on Jewish targets — which started precisely when Trump took office — has nothing to do with the growth of murderous white supremacist and neo-Nazi terror groups (never addressed in the Oval Office except as “very fine people”) that openly worship Trump and his “globalist” code lingo. It has nothing to do with Trump’s Congressional lickspittles accusing Jews of trying to buy elections and inviting a Holocaust denier to the State of the Union. Or Little Donnie retweeting anti-Jewish tropes and jesting about gas chambers.

No, folks, anti-Semitism has somehow, mysteriously, inexplicably risen from Obama’s past disrespect for Israeli leader Bibi Netanyahu. Of course, Obama’s contempt for Bibi is shared by the vast majority of American Jews, who know him as a duplicitous hack who openly brags of manipulating the U.S. (“I know what America is. America is a thing you can move very easily, move it in the right direction.”). For the record, the amoral Netanyahu has also been profoundly mistrusted by every U.S. president and Western leader since the Reagan era — until Trump, that is. Birds of a feather.

Anyway, having been Jewish for more than 62 years and being acquainted with religious bigotry firsthand, I do appreciate a Trumpian finally straightening me out about the true cause of the “uptick”(!) in anti-Semitism. It gave me a really good laugh.
