Fire crews from numerous counties are getting a handle on the Klondike Fire, which erupted in hot temperatures and high winds over the weekend, said Curry County Sheriff John Ward Tuesday morning.

A community meeting for Agness residents will be held at 2 p.m. today (Tuesday) at the fairgrounds in Gold Beach; an update will be published in the Pilot shortly thereafter.

A spot fire from the dormant Klondike Fire “erupted” over containment lines south of Agness, prompting the mandatory evacuation of all those south of the Rogue River and putting those north of the river on a “Be Ready” status.

The new portion of the fire, directly south of Agness, has burned about 2,000 acres.
