Valley smog from nearby wildfires has finally begun creeping its way towards Salmon Run, but has remained mild so far and is hardly noticeable among the heavy morning fog of the Brookings area.
The final rounds of the Brookings Business league have been playing out over the last few weeks with definitive placements coming next week.
Signups are still ongoing for the Prowl and Growl Golf Tournament put on by the Brookings Police Department to raise money in support of the local K9 unit. The entry fee is $75 per four person team, which includes a round of golf, carts, tee prizes and lunch. The tournament is a scramble format with no handicaps. The greens remain cool and mild at Salmon Run as the heavy morning fog lingers into the early afternoon before burning off later in the day. While the first signs of smoke from nearby wildfires has begun drifting into the area, it has yet to become an issue for local golfers.
Several spots of the fairway’s concrete cart path have also been undergoing repairs, so golfers should keep an eye out for several temporary “No Cart” areas.
The two-day Silver Salmon Invitational kicks off this weekend, Aug. 9-10.
Saturday, Salmon run will be closed for a private tournament from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., after which open play will resume as usual.
On Aug. 18, Salmon run will host its annual Youth On Course tournament, inviting high-level youth golfers from around the state to come compete at Salmon Run.
The latter half of the month will see Salmon Run host several weddings to wrap up the summer season.
