The 26th annual Southern Oregon Kite Festival, “Wonder of Wind” kicks off Friday night, July 20, with an indoor kite flying demonstration.
The event will then be all day Saturday and Sunday, July 21 and 22, at the Port of Brookings Harbor Kite Field featuring dozens of skilled kite flyers, demonstrating choreographed routines set to music.
There will also be food and product vendors, and children’s activities.
Fridays indoor demonstration begins at 7 p.m. in the Brookings-Harbor High School gymnasium at 625 Pioneer Road in Brookings.
Saturday and Sunday’s action is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and hundreds of people are expected to bring their lawn chairs and blankets to the kite field on Boat Basin Road at the Port of Brookings Harbor.
On both days, Boat Basin Road will be closed from 9:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. from the RV park entrance to the U.S. Coast Guard Station. Visitors are encouraged to park near the Port of Brookings Harbor boardwalk shops and either walk or take the free shuttle bus to the kite field.
Other festival-related events this weekend include a free children’s kite-building workshop from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; an auction banquet at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Chetco Grange Community Center at 97895 Shopping Center Avenue in Harbor.
