Today’s (July 14) Second Saturday Art Walk is an event that is stepping out of the box as it is providing an opportunity to meet a new library director and bid on tiny art to help support local theater.

A reception to welcome Chetco Community Public Library’s director Julie Retherford is from 3 to 5 p.m. in the meeting room at the library. While there, people can check out the art on the walls and in the lobby showcase.

People interested in viewing, and bidding on, tiny art can stop at Wright’s Custom Framing and Art Supplies. Proceeds from the silent auction benefit the Brookings Harbor Community Theater building remodeling project. According to the theater’s Lynette McPherson, there are 198 pieces of art. Two-dimensional art is no larger than 9-square inches, and three-dimensional work is 27 cubic inches and smaller. Plus there is the usual art displayed throughout the store.

Manley Art Center features the art of Pete Chasar, who creates images of the area’s coastal scenes. At 4 p.m. he will discuss his art.

Following at 4:30 p.m. at Brian Scott Gallery, Randy Warren, who makes roku pottery, will talk about his work and the techniques he uses to create the visual effects.

Details about all Art Walk venues are listed below. Most provide free refreshments and live music. There are no admission charges and no obligation to buy.
