The second annual Coastal Music Awards celebrated Brookings-Harbor’s music scene Saturday at the Elks Lodge.

The audience clapped along and took pictures throughout the mixed sets of artists and genres while the awards, announced throughout the evening, celebrated the achievements of 16 performers and music supporters.

Frankie C began the night singing a set of swing classics before the first award was announced.

He was followed by Disturbing the Peace, Night Moves, The Other Guise and Stephanie LaTorre.

Country singer/songwriter Scott William Perry closed the show.

Wendy Capitano, the founder and president of the event, said she was happy to bring the ceremony to the Elks this year where it would be more affordable and centrally located.

Last year’s ceremony was at Lucky 7 Casino.

This year’s event cost $10 and included hors d’oeuvres by Enoteca in Crescent City as well as six live performances and the awards.

Capitano said she created the Coastal Music Awards after watching the Country Music Association Awards two years ago.

“I wanted to give area musicians some needed recognition,” she said.

Bruce Ellis, publisher of The Insider of Southern Oregon and host of KCIW’s Insider Report, sponsored and co-hosted the event. He also used his radio show and magazine to promote the awards.

He said he wanted to work with Capitano and add live performances this year.

Highlights included Frank Colli winning awards for both single performer and male vocalist.

Scott William Perry, a triple-award winner, won song of the year and entertainer of the year. His band, the Scott William Perry Band, won country band of the year.
