Brian Scott Gallery is hosting a Winter Warmer Art Event 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. today.
The event features the art of watercolor artist, Dave Howell, who studied fine art at Mesa Junior College in San Diego, California, and later studied under master watercolorist, Jerry Stitt.
Stitt was Howell’s greatest influence. After Howell and his wife, Judy, traveled around the world, amassing 36,000 miles of travel over a 10-year odyssey, visiting 36 countries, he created small-format works, taking this art with him back to San Diego and joining the San Diego Watercolor Society. There, he studied under hi current mentor, Jim Millard.
Now a Brookings resident, Howell says, “I don’t want to be
labeled with a style, I want to paint feelings and emotions.” Howell has another great inspiration to express just that, as he watches the surf breaking, sunlight filtering through the redwoods, seeing old fishing boat waiting for battle, all allowing him to convey feelings and emotions.
Music will be performed by Matt Stump and refreshments will be served, Brian Scott Gallery is at 515 Chetco Ave., Brookings. For further information about this, Brown Bag Thursday or any other of the many events at the gallery, call 541-412-8687.
