Area high school students will be exhibiting their artwork April 13 at the Coos Art Museum’s annual VISION 2019 competition.
Past local winners include Natalie Garcia of Brookings Harbor High School with 2018 Best of Show for her painting “Henry VIII” and Jaidan McLean of Gold Beach High School with 2018 Second Place for the painting “Hibiscus Probiscis.”
This annual high school art competition is underwritten by Southwestern Oregon Community College Foundation. Coastal high schools as well as high schools in Douglas, Josephine and Jackson counties have submitted entries.
The competition will include drawings, paintings, etchings, mixed media, ceramics and photography, they will be on display in all upstairs galleries at Coos Art Museum.
Best of Show, first and second-place winners will receive both cash purchase awards and a two-year tuition waiver to attend Southwestern Oregon Community College. First through fourth places for each grade level will receive cash awards.
Southwestern Oregon Community College will present the VISION 2019 awards to 19 students in a ceremony for the winners, their families and their high school teachers on Feb. 22 from 4 p.m. to 4:30 PM. Admission for the awards ceremony is free to the public.
