The Chetco Pelican Players will open the Tony Award-winning musical thriller “Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street” Friday, Sept. 14.

After 15 years in exile for a crime he didn’t commit, a London barber returns home under the alias of Sweeney Todd in order to exact revenge upon the corrupt judge who sentenced him and tore apart his family.

With the help of Mrs. Lovett, the widowed owner of a failing meat pie shop, Sweeney opens up shop once again and sates his thirst for blood with his customers, and Mrs. Lovett finds a new secret ingredient for her meat pies.

Not everything is as it seems as Sweeney slices his way toward the Judge’s throat, and he may lose more than just his humanity in the process.

The show contains adult themes and it is not recommended for children.

The musical will be performed at the Chetco Playhouse at 1240 Chetco Ave. in Brookings.
