The Downtown Brookings Second Saturday Art Walk today (Sept. 8) will offer lots of events and art.

It is from 3 to 6 p.m. at venues within two blocks of Chetco Avenue.

In addition to its art displays, Chetco Community Public Library will host two special events: a Poetry Slam recital and competition from 3 to 5 p.m. with a preview of “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street,” performed by Chetco Pelican Players, during an intermission at 4. The musical, staged for three weekends, opens Friday, Sept. 14, at the Chetco Playhouse at 1240 Chetco Ave. in Brookings.

At Manley Art Center, five members of Columbia Fiber Arts Guild will be there to meet visitors and take part in a 4 p.m. interview about the show titled “Heat Wave.”

And, starting at 4:30 p.m., traveling artist Yevgeniy Zolotsev, a member of Russia’s Union of Free Artists, will do a watercolor painting demonstration at Wright’s Custom Framing and Art Supplies.

Most venues provide free refreshments and live music performed by artists representing various musical styles. There are no admission charges nor an obligation to buy.
