The 13th annual “Party in the Park” is from noon to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, July 7, in Buffington Park in Gold Beach.
This year’s theme is “Super Heroes,” and 16 local organizations will host free Super Hero-themed carnival booths with prizes for children.
Every child will be given a Super Heroes “passport,” which will need to be validated at all booths. Each youngster who participates in every carnival activity will choose a prize, and also be eligible to win the grand prize — a jet boat tour package donated by Jerry’s Rogue Jets, and several other items, including a radio controlled Batmobile and a Super Hero Girls Lego kit designed for children 7-12. The drawing for the grand prizes is at 3:30. Children must be present to win.
Rogue Credit Union will host a series of group games from 3 to 3:30, including “tugs-o-war” and “giant underpants races.” The Coos Forest Protective Association will bring equipment and Smokey Bear, and disc jockey, DJ Thunder will play music from Super Hero movies.
Members of the Rotary Club of Gold Beach will serve an optional picnic lunch from noon until 3 p.m. The lunch will include a hamburger or a premium hot dog, chips, watermelon and a drink. The cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children 12 and younger. Children do not have to purchase a lunch to participate in the carnival games or drawings, event organizers said.
The following are participating in the event: Curry County 4-H, Central Curry School District board, city of Gold Beach, Curry County Juvenile Corrections, Curry Health Foundation, Curry Watersheds Partnership, Democrats of Curry County, Friends of Curry Public Library, Gold Beach Senior Center, Moose Lodge of Gold Beach, Ophir Grange, Pennies for Pooches, Rogue Credit Union, Rotary Club of Gold Beach, Soroptimist International and South Coast ESD.
