Four games is more than many softball teams play in a week and the Lady Bruins got all of them taken care of in two days as they played in the Central Oregon Spring Break Invitational Tournament in Bend.

While the Lady Bruins came home with just one win out of the four games, Head Coach Steve Bonde was pleased with the team building time the players had.

"It was a good overall experience to go over there and spend four nights together in a beautiful home," he said. "Win or lose it was good preparation. Just the experience of it, playing four games back-to-back like that and staying together for four nights as a team was good."

The Lady Bruins lost the first game 7-8 to Ridgeview High after leading 7-5 for most of the game. According to Bonde one of the reasons was the team had to get used to the field.

"We're used to playing here on the turf and the ball moves faster," he said. "Over there we were playing in three inches of powdered dust and the ball just died."

The Bruins' second game found them scoring one run in each of the first two innings but then unable to score again as they lost 2-7 to Regis.

The Bruins snapped the losing skid with a 7-1 victory over Mountain View High School, scoring in five of seven innings.

The Bruins scored two runs in the first, third and fourth innings and the put on the icing in the fifth with one more run.

The team was led by Courtney Kay who went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs.

Hannah Goergen pitched a complete-game winner, striking out four while walking two and giving up just one run.

The Bruins final game was a 9-12 loss to the Crook County Cowgirls that, according to Bonde, didn't reflect how good the game was.

"It was a lot closer than the score showed and a hard-fought game all the way through," he said. "We scored 4 runs in the sixth and then had a chance to score some more in the seventh but just couldn't get the runners across the plate."

The Bruins will play a doubleheader at Del Norte High School on Tuesday with the first game scheduled for 3 p.m.

Far West League play will start April 9 with a road game at South Umpqua High School.
