After the first day of wrestling at the Far West League district meet at Siuslaw High School in Florence, the Brookings-Harbor High School wrestling team sits in second place in the team standings.

South Umpqua took the lead after day one with 58 points, while the Bruins are not far behind with 52.

Douglas sits in third place with 46.5 points, North Bend is fourth at 42, Sutherlin is fifth at 34 and Siuslaw rounds out the field in sixth with 27 points.

Ten Bruins are still in the running for individual championships as they made it into the semifinals Friday night.

Dustin Paradis (135 pounds), Willie Bennett (140) and Mike Althof (215) all received byes into Saturday's semifinals.

Ray Mazyck (112), Denny Davis (171), Kyle Hover (171) and Cody Brooks (215) pinned their opponents in their second round matches to advance to the semis.

Also heading into Saturday with a chance to make it into the championship match are Tyler Drafahl (145), Cody Miller (152) and Evan Peterson (130), who all won by decision Friday evening.

Day two of the district tournament begins at noon today (Feb. 9).

The top three wrestlers in each weight division qualify for the state wrestling tournament to be held at the Memorial Coliseum in Portland from Thursday, Feb. 14 through Saturday, Feb. 16.
