Rose MacDonald, 99, passed away at a local care facility in Brookings on Oct. 3, 2011.

Rose was born May 28, 1912, in Ritzville, Wash., to Emmanuel and Christina (Stuckle) Pflugrath.

She grew up on the family wheat farm and as a young girl helped with the 12-horse harvesting team.

In 1935 she moved to Wenatchee, Wash., to work in an apple packing plant. There, she met and married Ted Vaughn. Later they moved to Pendleton, where they lived for 30 years before moving to Tigard.

In 1975 they divorced and Rose moved to Los Altos, Calif., where she worked in a contract post office selling stamps and arranging flowers.

She married Wilbur I. "Mac" MacDonald in 1977. They lived in Sunnyvale and Santa Rosa, Calif., until moving to Medford in the late 1980s to be near family.

The two enjoyed traveling and visiting until Mac's death in 2003. Rose then joined her two sons in Brookings.

Rose enjoyed cooking, reading, gardening, and especially liked catching and canning salmon. She loved having visitors and always had pie or cookies to offer.

Survivors include sons Wendell Vaughn and wife Sharon of Brookings; Richard Vaughn and wife Midge of West Linn; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; stepson Bert MacDonald and wife Pat of Arnold, Calif.

Rose was preceded in death by her husbands, stepdaughter Lois MacDonald and three siblings, Albert, Emilia and Anne.

No public ceremony will be held. Private inurnment will be at W. J. Ward Memorial Cemetery.
