Dwayne L. Darnell, 51, Coos Bay, died Oct. 23, 2000.

He was born Dec. 21, 1948, in White Salmon, Wash., to William and Florence (Wellenbrock) Darnell.

He grew up in Brookings and was a 1967 graduate of Brookings-Harbor High School.

He later received an associate of arts degree in auto mechanics from Southwestern Oregon Community College.

Mr. Darnell served in Vietnam with the U.S. Army with the Ninth Infantry Division. He received the Army Commendation Medal, First Oak Leaf Cluster and the Air Medal.

He was honorably discharged as a sergeant.

He worked for Weyerhauser for 28 years as a chaser and second loader. He also worked for Sunshine Logging.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church of North Bend and the American Legion.

Mr. Darnell enjoyed reading, history, learning, traveling, sports and the outdoors. He had a passion for bicycling and belong to the local bike club.

He was a great Marshfield High School football fan and was very community minded and had special concerns for its continued economical growth.

Survivors are his children Geoffrey and Jennifer Darnell, both of Coos Bay; sister and brother-in-law Lynda and Ace Johnston, Beaver, Wash.; brother Gary Darnell, Forks, Wash.; brother and sister-in-law Dan and Allison Darnell, Sherwood; grandmother Faye Pundt, Yerington, Nev.; nieces Lacey Johnston; Amber Darnell; Lindsay and Heather Darnell.

Also surviving are many close friends.

Visitation will be held at Coos Bay Chapel Oct. 28 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Oct. 29 from noon to 5 p.m.

Memorial services will be Monday, Oct. 30 at 1:30 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 2741 Sherman Ave., North Bend.

Rev. Susan L. Kyllo will officiate.

Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park, Coos Bay.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of ones choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Coos Bay Chapel, Seventh and Anderson St.
