Gale Pete Harry Petersen, 75, The Dalles, died Feb. 12, 2001, at Mid-Columbia Medical Center in The Dalles.

He was born June 30, 1925, in Belgrade, Neb., to Paul Emil and Ella Marie (Hellbuch) Petersen.

He spent most of his youth in the midwest until moving to Burns where he graduated from high school.

Mr. Petersen received a degree in electronics from M.I.T. while serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He married Lila Irene Scalf Petersen May 31, 1946, in Coulee City, Wash.

After the war, he lived on the Southern Oregon Coast working as an industrial electrician at saw mills.

He moved to The Dalles in the early 1970s to work at the aluminum plants in The Dalles and Goldendale. He retired as supervisor of the electrical department.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and the outdoors.

Survivors are his wife Lila Irene Scalf Petersen of The Dalles; sons and daughters-in-law Robert and Linda Petersen of Oregon City; James and Peggy Petersen of Prineville; sisters Pauline Clark of Hines; Norma Jean Paulas of Salem; Geraldine Pyrch and her husband John of Portland.

She is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law Harold and Mary Petersen of Corvallis; Paul and Billy Petersen of La Grande; Richard and Wanda Petersen of St. John, British Columbia; grandchildren Brian, Steve and Scott; great-grandson Jacob;.

Also surviving are eight nieces and nephews.

A public gathering in his memory will be held March 24 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at The Dalles Country Club with a private family gathering to follow from 3 to 5 p.m.

A private cremation was held at The Dalles Win-quatt Crematory.

Arrangements are under the direction of Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home of The Dalles.
