Joe Moody, 69, Crescent City, died June 20, 2001, in Crescent City.

He was born May 16, 1932, in Orange, Calif.

He served four years in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Moody was a lifelong educator, spending 20 years as a teacher and principal in California in the Walnut Unified School District in Diamond Bar and Walnut in Southern California.

He also spent time as a school superintendent in a small town in Fresno County.

He spent 15 years working as an educator for the California Department of Corrections in San Luis Obispo and San Diego, Calif. He spent the last eight years working for the Pelican Bay State Prison in Crescent City.

Mr. Moody was a trustee for the New Life Community Church in Crescent City and taught a Bible class for the last three years.

Survivors are his wife, Patricia Ann Moody of Crescent City; sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Donald and Katherine Moody of Templeton, Calif.; Andrew and Monique Moody of La Habra, Calif.; Timothy and Paula Moody of Massillon, Ohio; son, David Moody of Newark, Calif.; sisters, Jane Moody of Oklahoma; Joan Gerard of Arizona.

Also surviving are eight grandsons and one granddaughter.

A memorial service is planned for today (June 23) at 10 a.m. at the Cornerstone Assembly of God Church in Crescent City. Interment will follow at the Del Norte County Veterans Cemetery.
