A 14-year-old Yuba City, Calif., girl fell while climbing on a craggy seastack at the south end of Harris Beach State Park Tuesday afternoon.

Witnesses said she fell about 40 or 50 feet to a rocky area about 40 feet above the beach.

She suffered injuries to her head but was breathing and conscious when paramedics arrived.

Medical personnel and several volunteers transported her using a litter

over a boulder-strewn tide pool area, across a sandy beach and up a

steep path leading to a parking lot. State park personnel helped

transport the girl along the upper portion of the path via a park

utility vehicle.

She was transported to Sutter Coast Hospital in Crescent City, but her condition was unknown as of press time Tuesday night.

According to the victim's younger sister, the family had been in the area for five days for the Fourth of July festivities.
