Azalea Princess Summer Lee Worlton is busy with many varied interests, from church activities and computers to leadership opportunities and television production.

She says she applied for the Azalea Festival court because she wants to participate in more community activities and to be a role model for younger generations.

Her previous activities, in addition to maintaining a 3.4 grade point average in six classes, include serving as junior and senior class president, representing the high school at the Hugh O'Brian Youth Foundation Leadership Conference, serving as facilitator for Students Today Are not Ready for Sex program, and participating in student-produced television programs.

Producing the television programs is a favorite activity for Summer.

andquot;I enjoy working with others to create stories that are shown monthly on our school's televisions,andquot; she says. andquot;It's fun to start with an idea and see it through with plenty of hard work, and watch it become a masterpiece.andquot;

High tech doesn't scare Summer. She has had three years of computer basics, two years of computer graphics design classes, and a Web page developing class. Her career interests are interior decorating and business management.

She plans to pursue those interests, first with a degree business management from Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls, and then to move on to a degree in interior decorating from Brigham Young University in Rexburg, Idaho.

Living on a andquot;mini ranchandquot; nine miles up Gardner Ridge Road, Summer enjoys riding four-wheelers, playing with animals, swimming in the river, enjoying the peace and quiet, and just spending time with her family.

She also has a two-year letter in basketball management - boys' basketball, that is.

She says she is like any other teenager and likes spending time with friends, going to movies and to the beach, doing crafts, bowling, shopping, having fun and finding something positive in each day.

She also enjoys redecorating rooms, not too surprising for a young woman who plans to major in interior decorating.

Her church has always been a big part of her life and she has served as president of the young women's group and as Beehive counselor.

She was chosen as Soroptimist Girl of the Month and Rotary Student of the Month for October, 2002.

She is a young woman of many and varied talents. Her original plan for the Azalea Princess talent was a magic act in which she would disappear. But that didn't work out quite right and her plans have changed. She said her current plan is to produce and present andquot;an interactive, multimedia story of my life.andquot;

Talking about her experience so far as an Azalea princess, Summer said, andquot;I've had so much fun, getting to know the others I didn't really know.andquot;

Her advice to any young woman thinking about applying for the court is, andquot;I think if you're willing to be up in front of people, you should go for it. It's a lot of time and a lot of stress, and lack of sleep. And, it's a great opportunity.andquot;
