The Friends of Music luncheon and fashion show June 19 at Star of the Sea Catholic Church was, as it has been for the past dozen years, well attended.

According to Ruth Cavaliere, treasurer of the group that brings music to Brookings-Harbor, the money raised was andquot;enough for one concert.andquot; In addition to the net from the approximately 130 tickets sold, $180 was raised selling raffle tickets for an original oil painting donated by Brookings artist Sara Broderick, and another $450 from an auction for an electric bicycle donated by the artist's husband, Tom Broderick.

The annual fashion show featured a salad and dessert lunch prepared by members, and planned by Friends of Music chair Sue Gold. This year the lunch included strawberry spinach salad, summer pasta salad, fresh fruit, rolls and butter, and angel fluff dessert, plus homemade butter mints that have been a traditional favorite.

The fashion show was presented by Gottschalk's, with store manager Penny Hulse and special events coordinator Cheryl Stapleton transporting the 22 garments from Grants Pass for the show.

Stapleton provided the commentary, introducing the fashions from Liz Claiborne, Alfred Denner, Koret, Columbia and other designers modeled by local residents Patty Burfield, Barbara Cleland, Carol Crow, Mia Gordon, Cindy McCrea, AnnEtta McNeely, Toni Mefford and Barbara Wilson.

Upcoming concerts include a 7 p.m., Sept. 24 performance by City Winds, a quintet of flute, English horn, clarinet, French horn and bassoon; a 3 p.m. performance Nov. 7 by pianist Frank Wiens, professor of piano at University of the Pacific in Stockton; and a 3 p.m. performance Nov. 21 by the Southern Oregon Repertoire Singers.
