Each Christmas season, the Brookings-Harbor Lions Club arranges the holiday decor and light displays at Oasis Park, 706, Chetco Avenue across from Ace Hardware, in Brookings.
The Club adopted the park in 2017. The park features a Lion pop-up library and painted rock garden hosted by the Brookings Oregon Painted Rock group.
For 2019, with a red, green and gold theme, the center community tree will be adorned with 2,700 lights, 150 FT of mesh ribbon bows, and 76 ornaments mostly made from donated Mountain Dew soda cans.
Club members want to thank Ace Hardware for providing extra Christmas lights for the displays and wish to thank the City and Shuldberg Orthodontics for allowing the use of their electricity.
As its main fundraiser, the Club takes deposit-only Oregon and California drink cans, plastic, and glass bottles. Donation bins are at Bankus Park, Fred Meyer Recycle Center, and Elks RV Center.
The Lions thank the public for their donations to the "Kans4Kids" recycle program, from July through November, helping the Lions to vision screened 905 students, approved assistance for 55 eyeglasses and three people for hearing aids, sponsor boys and girls Scout troops, and aid in many other community programs and projects.
To arrange a "Kan4Kids" large personal pick-up, or if a business wishes to be on the Club's regular route, call Lion President Jim Newman, at 541-254-1002.
