Pistol River Parade participants included horses and the occasional dog.

The annual Pistol River parade and potluck on Aug. 17 drew a variety of participants and area residents.

Residents voted for their favorite parade float, with the winner receiving a bag of Nectar of Life Coffee (the roaster is based in Pistol River).

Neil and Donna Walker took home first prize and Dan’s Ace Hardware took second, according to event organizer Hannah Jennings.

In addition, a pie contest was held and cash prizes awarded. The judges were brought in from the Curry County Fair.

Earning top prize was Eileen Carpenter, with Roseanne Ismert taking second place and Ron Crook third.

The parade and potluck’s $1,000 scholarship went to Samuel Jennings.

Giant bubbles were contributed by Rosa and Richard Cole, and the Hook family brought Frisbee golf.

As for next year’s event, the Friendship Hall already is searching for a host, as well as staff to help.
