Two local businesses celebrated the opening of new locations in Harbor on Saturday, Sept. 24, with ribbon-cutting ceremonies, a barbecue and open house.

Barron’s Furniture Sleep Center and RE/MAX Coast and Country have opened at 16218 W. Hoffeldt Lane in the building formerly occupied by Reliance Appliance.

Brookings-Harbor Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Linda Moran said she was excited to see the “home-grown” companies expand. Umpqua Bank hosted the barbecue.

Barron’s Furniture Sleep Center

The Hoffeldt Lane store is the third location for Barron’s Furniture. Owner Terry Adams said the concept for the new store grew out of an increased awareness of the importance of sleep quality. In addition to the top-of-the-line Beautyrest Black mattress collection from Simmons, the sleep center carries pillows, sheets and mattress and pillow protectors.

The store’s main location on Shopping Center Avenue will continue to sell bedroom furniture, Adams said. Barron’s Furniture Warehouse, also located on Shopping Center Avenue, carries mattresses and bedroom furniture. But the sleep center offers a one-stop shop for the customer interested in products that contribute to quality sleep.

“There is a growing market for specialty sleep products, not just mattresses,” Adams said. “Fine linens, as an example, are a really big deal for body temperature regulation and overall comfort of the bed. The new store allows us to focus on customers’ sleep needs, without the distraction of activity in our main location.”

Barron and Lavonne Peterson opened Barron’s at 16340 Lower Harbor Rd. # 285 in January 1986 and opened Barron’s Furniture Warehouse, at 97900 Shopping Center Ave., soon after that.

Adams, who graduated from Brookings-Harbor High School in 2002, joined the company the next year when he was just 19 years old. When the Petersons sold the stores in 2006, Adams became a partner. In 2015 he took over as the sole owner of the company.

RE/MAX Coast and Country

RE/MAX Coast and Country opened in Brookings in 2005, and husband-wife team Bret and Marie Curtis acquired the company in 2009. In Brookings, the firm has an office at 703 Chetco Ave.

Bret Curtis said the uptick in the number of people wanting to own property along the Southern Oregon coastline and the need to accommodate real estate professionals who wanted to join the company prompted the decision to open an office in Harbor.

“Our greater presence in the community is a reflection of the number of real estate brokers wanting to be a part of our brand and the steady growth of the communities we serve,” he said.

Marie Curtis said the company’s office manager Jill Lange and her husband Michael Lange handled the details of getting the space on Hoffeldt Lane ready for occupancy. Michael Lange recently became a licensed real estate agent. He and Jill work at the Harbor location.
