The Bruins began the Hidden Valley Tournament on Tuesday against the their hosts, the Hidden Valley Mustangs, who came out on top in a close 4-2 game.
On Wednesday, the Bruins went on to play the Cottage Grove Lions, taking a decisive 5-1 win before ending the tournament against the Sutherlin Bulldogs for a 3-1 loss.
The Bruins now stand at 4-3 overall at rank No. 24 in the OSAA 4A rankings.
The first game against the Mustangs saw an uneventful first three innings before the fourth, when both teams scores their first run to head into the fifth at 1-1. From there, the Mustangs ran away with the game with three runs to put them at 4-1 to end the fifth.
The Bruins managed a single run in the sixth while keeping the Mustangs in check. But the Bruins couldn’t manage to secure any runs in the seventh and ultimately ended at 4-2.
Wednesday morning, the Bruins took on the Lions in the second round, where they took an early lead and proceeded to completely shut down the Lions by scoring up to 5-0 in the first four innings. The fifth and sixth innings were uneventful as the Lions managed to score a single run in the seventh to end at 5-1.
The third round saw the Bulldogs taking an early 2-0 lead over the Bruins in the first inning. After an uneventful second, the Bruins managed to make a single run in the third, but weren’t able to drive more runs across the plate for the rest of the game.
The Bulldogs scored the last run of the game in the fifth with the game ending as the Bruins struck out in the seventh at 3-1.
The Bruins return next Wednesday, hosting the Gold Beach Panthers at 4:30 p.m. for a rescheduled game from March 15. After that, the Bruins will go on to host North Valley on Friday for a double-header starting at 2:30 p.m.

Bruins track and field
The Bruins travel to North Bend on Tuesday for the FWL JV track meet starting at 4 p.m.
The Bruins golf team head to Eagle Point Golf Course next Thursday for a tournament beginning at noon.
The Panters softball team travelled to Glide to play the Wildcats on Friday. They’ll then travel to Rogue River later today to play the Chieftains in a double-header.
Next week they’ll start league play by hosting the Bandon Tigers on Tuesday before heading to Brookings on Wednesday to play their rescheduled non-league game against the Bruins.
