Coming off of a big 29-0 victory against the Cougars on Monday, the Bruins were set to host the Gold Beach Panthers on Wednesday, but had to cancel because of rainy weather and have rescheduled for April 4. The Bruins next game will be against St. Mary’s in Medford today at 1. p.m. After that, the Bruins travel to Phoenix on Friday to play the Pirates in a double header starting at 3 p.m.
The Bruins golf team faced wind and rain at Bandon Crossing on Thursday to kick off their season with a bang by placing second with a score of 396 out of seven league teams, just behind Marshfield at 367.
The next closest team was North Bend, who came in a distant third with 421.
Bret Darger came in third in the individual scoring at 87.
“Finishing second out of seven league teams in such difficult conditions says a lot about our young team,” said Coach Gary Early. “It was difficult and wet, but our younger guys played really well and got some good experience from it.”
While the team displayed their affinity for driving and the long game, Early said this tournament highlighted the team’s need to polish up their short game during practice in order to take them to the next level.
The Bruins also traveled to the Cougar Canyon tournament in Myrtle Creek on Friday, where they took first place. There was a smaller group of schools competing this time around and the Bruins began to get worn down after back-to-back tournaments. Darger came in at second again with a score of 89.
Robbie Rowe also won the nine hole round for the JV team with a low score of 55.
The Bruin’s next tournament will see them traveling to the Grants Pass Country Club on Monday where they’ll start playing at 8:30 a.m.
After a decisive 14-4 win against Coquille on Monday, the Panthers were rained out the rest of the week.
The Panthers were scheduled to play St. Mary’s on Tuesday and Brookings on Wednesday but both games are now rescheduled.
The Panthers now travel to Medford on Monday to play St. Mary’s at 4 p.m. and moved their game against the Bruins to April 4.
The Panthers then travel to Coquille for a rematch against the Red Devils at 4:30 p.m on Wednesday
After a rough 17-3 loss against Coquille on Monday, the Panthers rescheduled their game against the Bruins to April 4. They host the Rogue River Chieftains for a doubleheader today starting at noon.
