For those who say there’s nothing to do in Curry County, we say “Give us a break!”

The evidence proving our point is quickly mounting as summer begins.

Already we’ve experienced Brookings’ Azalea Festival, Rockin’ the Chetco, and the first summer concert at Azalea Park. Next up this week is the annual Pistol River Wave Bash windsurfing competition, the Chetco Pelican Player’s musical “Chicago,” and another Sunday concert in the park featuring Joe Craven and the Sometimers.

In July and August there’s the annual Southern Oregon Kite Festival, fireworks celebrations, Festival of Art in Stout Park, Curry County Fair, and Slam’n Salmon Ocean Derby. There’s a Wednesday farmer’s market on Highway 101 in Harbor and vendors and live music at the Port of Brookings Harbor on most weekends.

Outdoor adventures include exploring our local forests, rivers and beaches. The U.S. Forest Service and state parks present talks and walks at local campgrounds, and the local Audubon Society offers birding opportunities.

Shall we go on?

The next time you hear someone say “I’m bored! There’s nothing to do around here!” Show them a copy of the Curry Coastal Pilot and prove them wrong.

The evidence is overwhelming!
