Self admiration?

The Pilot’s reporting of the Chetco Pelican Player’s 2017 Packy Awards (Jan. 24) raises the question: is this really a competition or an exercise in self admiration?

No other local community theaters are allowed to participate and some of the award categories are uncontested. So, where’s the competition?

As an IRS 501c3, tax-exempt public benefit corporation, I think CPP should use their resources in more productive ways to benefit the community at large.

Dog duty

It never ceases to amaze me how people let their dogs poop in public places and walk away. What is their excuse for not picking up the waste? Maybe the people who act this way can enlighten those of us who think it’s important to take responsibility for cleaning up after our dogs. What’s your excuse?

•I’m lazy.

•I don’t care if it attracts vermin.

•I don’t care if other people step in it. They should watch where they’re going.

•I don’t care if it’s a visual blight.

•I don’t care if it smells.

•I’m too old or infirm.

•I have no respect for myself or others.

•It’s not in my yard, so I don’t have to deal with it.

•Someone else will clean it up.

•It’s just not a big deal. I don’t know why people take offense. Poop all around is a good thing.

•I didn’t realize my dog was going to poop, so I don’t have a bag.

•I had a feeling my dog was going to poop, but I forgot the bag.

•I don’t have any bags.

•It’s gross having to clean up after my dog. It’s off the beaten path, so it doesn’t matter.

If you own a dog, please have some respect for others and clean up the poop. It’s a responsibility that comes along with owning a dog.

Staying alive

Whatever happened to Brookings Harbor Community Theater, aka The Dori Randal Performing Arts Center? They are currently organizing the opening of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” for Feb. 2 at the Grange in Harbor.

Auditions for “Alice in Wonderland” are set for Feb. 15.

Rent at the previous location was tripled by the new owners. Storage units are overflowing with production materials and temporary venues are being booked for rehearsals and performances.

Putting on a show in a permanent home is lots of work but doing it this way is even more work, Please help continue Dori’s legacy for the kids. Come see the show. Donate.

The theater is a 501(c)3 nonprofit; all donations are tax deductible. Go to Patreon.com/BHCT for other methods of support.

Thank you from this actor and grandma who believes in this outlet for the kids.
