Stacy M’Lee Rust, 47, passed away unexpectedly in her home Monday, Jan 29, 2018.

She was born July 10, 1970, to Rose and Dave Hopkins in Crescent City, California. She was a Brookings resident her entire life and enjoyed every minute of it.

In her youth, she enjoyed softball, horseback riding, and playing with friends which continued throughout her life.

Stacy began her career at Cal-Ore Life Flight 17 years ago and knew it was always where she wanted to be. She enjoyed sharing the story of the moment she knew this was the field for her: “I remember the moment vividly. I was in the fourth grade and knew I wanted to be in EMS (Emergency Medical Service) just like my Momma.”

She held true to that dream. Stacy was a dedicated, hardworking and forthright employee. You could always count on her to tell you like it was … even if it wasn’t the nicest thing.

She married Carl Rust Sept. 23, 2010, and they quickly began an exciting life together — trips to Mexico, fishing, cooking fancy meals at home, and simply enjoying quiet evenings in one another’s company. They truly loved each other.

In her spare time, Stacy loved riding her horse, cooking and doting on her grandchildren. Most of all, she loved her family. She would do anything for anyone without hesitation. Her passion for them is clear and undeniable.

She is survived by her husband Carl; children Amber (Jerry) Espinoza, Aubree (Tony) Arnesen, Cassidy Harrell, and Jacob (Paiten) Harrell; brother Jay (Dawna) Hopkins; and niece Jessica Hopkins. Stacy was “Ah-Ma” to her grandchildren: Jace, Radley and Paisley.

She was preceded in death by her father Dave Hopkins.

Stacy had a huge heart and made friends everywhere she went. Her unforgettable laugh and incredible enthusiasm will live on in our hearts forever.

A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at Living Waters Foursquare Church, 1136 Fifield St., Brookings.
