The National Weather Service in Medford has issued a flood potential outlook until the weekend, as steady rain is forecast for Curry County through Saturday.
The concern is greater than usual because the Chetco Bar Fire, which burned 191,125 acres last summer, combined with heavy rainfall, could bring downriver heavy mud, logs and other debris.
The lack of foliage on the ground, too, allows more water into the river, creating flood potentials.
Starting this morning, steady rainfall is forecast to fall followed by a cold front that will bring snow to areas as low as 1,600 feet elevation. Snow is expected to fall from Thursday to Sunday in the mountains.
Outdoor recreationists are advised to take caution if they are in the Chetco River or in the burn scar.
