Spring Training with the Bruins

The Brookings-Harbor High School baseball team is hosting their third annual "Spring Training with the Bruins" from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, March 11 at Bud Cross Park.

This baseball skills clinic is for youth 4-12 years old and costs $20 per player.

Bruin players will be teaching the basic skills and drills of throwing, fielding, hitting and base running.

For an additional $10, an extra session will be held from 4-5 p.m. on pitching and catching.

Registration begins at noon and in case of rain, the clinic will be held indoors at the BHHS gym.

Women's self-defense seminar

A seminar on women's situational self-defense will be held Saturday, March 17, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Club Center in Brookings, 745 Railroad St.

The class teaches realistic and practical self-defense on a wide range of encounters, including choking, being pinned, grabbing and restraining techniques, striking, kicking, ‘chin-na' (nerve striking), weapon defense and evasion..

Women 13 years and older of any physical condition are encouraged to attend.

Attendees are encouraged to wear loose clothes or sweats.

Cost for the seminar is $20 for adults and $10 for students.

Youth soccer sign-ups

The Brookings-Harbor Youth Soccer League has announced their sign-up dates for the upcoming season.

Registration will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, Thursday, April 5, and Tuesday, April 10, in the large conference room of the Chetco Community Library.

The UK Soccer Camp will be held again this year from July 23-27 and registration can be found online at www.uksocca.com. A free coaches/parents clinic is also being offered on July 28.

Volunteers are also needed for the season in several different areas.

Randy Sanders had a 726 series on the Monday Trio League to lead the men this week. Brian Branton on the same night had a 259 game for high game.

Karen Kerr of the Azalea League had a 576 series and a 238 game to lead the women this week.

Cody Stumpenhaus had a 522 series for the juniors. Skyler Shuford had high game with a 200.
