Little league sign-ups

Brookings Harbor Little League will be holding sign-ups for the 2008 season on Wednesday, Jan. 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday, Jan. 12 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Chetco Community Public Library.

Boys and girls ages 5 to 15 will be accepted to the league which offers divisions from T-ball through juniors.

Children wanting to sign up must have their original birth certificate for registration.

Anyone interested in coaching, umpiring or volunteering in anyway is encouraged to fill out a volunteer form.

Babe Ruth sign-ups

The Brookings-Harbor Babe Ruth League will be holding sign-ups for the upcoming season today (Jan. 2), Friday, Jan. 4, Tuesday, Jan. 15 and Friday, Jan. 18.

Sign-ups will be from 6-8 p.m. at the Chetco Community Library.

Players from Brookings and Gold Beach are welcome for the 13-15 year-old age group and the 16-18 year-old age group.

Proof of age (birth certificate) and proof of address is required.

Minimal travel is required for the teams and scholarships are available. Sponsors are also needed.

Wrestling fundraiser

The Brookings-Harbor High School wrestling team will be selling firewood as a fundraiser.

The team will charge $100 per truckload and another small fee for stacking the wood as needed.

Bowling fundraiser

The Brookings-Harbor High School bowling team will be offering "Learn to Bowl" classes as a fundraiser at Azalea Lanes.

The program will consist of four classes which take place every Wednesday on Jan. 9, 16, 23 and 30.

Classes will begin at 2:30 p.m. and end approximately at 4 p.m.

Cost is $25 for the four-week course and will be limited in size due to availability.

There will be 30 available spots for first- and second- graders who will bowl with bumpers, while 70 spots are reserved for third, fourth and fifth graders.

Each lane will have at least one member of the high school bowling team to help instruct the children while coach Randy Scruggs and Gary and Karen Kerr (owners of Azalea Lanes) rotate through the lanes.

At each class, students will receive instruction and get to bowl one game.

Parents can sign-up their children at Azalea Lanes and must pay the $25 in order to reserve a spot.

Upon completion of the program, students will receive one coupon for a game of bowling after paying for one game.
