The Brookings-Harbor High School softball team halted a brief three-game slide as they swept the Siuslaw Vikings 12-3 and 12-4 Friday afternoon.

"We played really, really well and I'm proud of how everyone bounced back," Coach Steve Padilla said. "Especially with playing several people at new positions."

Jessie Goergen earned both wins on the mound for the Bruins (6-3, 10-9) in the doubleheader.

"Jessie pitched fantastic in both games and Brooke (Blofsky) did a great job behind the plate," Padilla said.

Game one: Brookings 12, Siuslaw 3

The Bruins opened game one with three runs in the first inning as Goergen knocked in Vanessa Meirer and Kara Miller and then scored on a fielder's choice to put the Bruins up 3-0.

Ciara Freeman and Jennifer Sirchuck had RBI singles in the third inning as the Bruins took a 5-0 advantage.

In the fourth, Blofsky knocked in Miller and then Goergen scored on a fielder's choice, followed by Blofsky touching home on a Siuslaw error to give the Bruins an 8-0 lead.

Siuslaw battled back and tacked on three runs in the sixth inning.

But the Bruins showed that they weren't done as they put four more runs on the board in the seventh.

Miller knocked in Jessica Gardner for the first run of the inning and then Goergen hit home Meirer and Miller.

Goergen scored the final run of the game on a fielder's choice by Blofsky to end the game with a 12-3 victory.

Game two: Brookings 12, Siuslaw 4

Game two saw the Bruins get out to a big lead early on as they torched Siuslaw for seven runs in the first inning.

The big inning came with a little help from the Vikings as they committed three errors and walked two Bruins to help with the scoring.

Savannah Beckley had the big hit of the inning with a two-run single that put the Bruins up 5-0.

In the second inning, Breanne Manley ripped a two-run base hit to score Sirchuck and Jamie Kay for a 9-0 advantage.

The Bruins added a pair of runs in the fourth inning and a final run in the seventh.

Siuslaw was finally able to get on the board with a pair of runs in the fourth and then added another two runs in the seventh to make it a 12-4 final score.
