The Brooking-Harbor Youth Soccer League held its raffle drawing for a $2000 travel voucher on Saturday, Oct. 25, at Kalmiopsis Elementary School in Brookings.

The raffle, which took place on the new soccer field it helped create, was won by Wendy Williams of Brookings.

BHYSL had been selling tickets since September. In total they sold 150.

The raffle was a fundraiser for the construction of the new soccer field on the Kalmiopsis campus. The funds provided an underground sprinkler system and its installation, wiring to bring electricity to the field and hydroseeding.

Brookings-Harbor High School Athletic Director John Young drew the winning ticket for BHYSL organizers.

"I was really impressed with the partnership between the BHYSL and the high school," Young said. "It's a neat end result, and now many of the soccer players will finally have a place of their own."

BHYSL board member Alice Farmer said the completion of the field has been a long process of raising funds and coordinating development.

"It was amazing how many people were willing to step forward and help build this field," she said. "Many businesses and individuals helped, and that really illustrates how willing the community and the school district were to take part."
